Lamnalco Safir operate a fleet of four (4) Robert Allan designed RAstar 3600 series modern high performance ASD tugs. Good for 15.1 knots free running speed, carrying full escort class notation, Fire-fighting Class 1 and a bollard pull in excess of 95 tonnes - the fleet is dedicated to supporting LNG carriers calling at Balhaf in Yemen.
On Saturday (31st October) the arrival of the inaugural LNG carrier to Yemen LNG Company’s new Balhaf terminal gave Lamnalco Safir’s tug fleet the opportunity to showcase their performance for the first time. The fleet performed brilliantly and the crews can look forward to increasing activity at the terminal through 2009 and into 2010 as Yemen joins the ranks of the world’s exporting nations.
The Lamnalco Sana’a and her 3 sisters, built by Med Marine in Turkey, are powered by a pair of Wartsila–Lips 9L26 diesels each developing 3,060 kW at 1000 rev/min and driving twin Z-drives. The accommodation is to a very high standard for a crew of up to 10 persons, several cabins fitted with full en suite facilities. The tugs at Yemen LNG make a welcome addition to the Lamnalco Group fleet of 100+ modern terminal and offshore tugs, workboats and specialist support craft.
